Sharing the Light

in the category This Week In Education

While everyone else is busy with different concerns – politicians bickering left and right on issues that never seem to end; and a lot of people who have lost hope and chose apathy as a way out… a group of dedicated youth volunteers are silently Sharing the Light to help improve public high schools in different corners of the country.

These volunteers are members of the 36 Pathways Youth Groups (PYGs) nationwide – the youth volunteer arm of Pathways to Higher Education. With Sharing the Light as the unifying project of the PYGs, they will adopt 50 public high school libraries all over the country, improve its facilities and information resources, organize training workshops that will enhance the skills of teacher-librarians and implement a reading program for the students of the adopted high schools.

This project is in partnership with Children’s Hour Philippines, Inc. and Personnel Management Association of the Philippines. By summer of 2007, the improved public high school libraries will be the tangible contribution of these youth volunteers to the country as they aspire to be the light in these dark and trying times.
