Pathways kicked off another year of collaboration with coordinators at the Pathways Coordinators’ Convention held last July 23, 2010 at the Rizal Library Conference Room.

Pathways programs depend heavily on coordination with the partner schools. The Coordinators have undeniably made this task a lot smoother and has allowed us to efficiently reach more students in their school. The Convention was held to further involve the Coordinators as partners in the development of our programs primarily through discussing their experiences and facilitating the formation of a support group. In the end, they shared their image of an ideal Pathways coordinator and expressed their enthusiasm over kapihan sessions which will explore ways to better address their concerns as Coordinators.

From the discussions held, the participants identified the following traits that the ideal Pathways Coordinator should have:

  • Genuinely concerned with students
  • Listens and communicates effectively
  • Works well with others
  • Organized and flexible
  • Innovative, Open-Minded
  • Patient and Compassionate
  • Passionate about learning and education

One month later, on August 18, we invited our partners from the Department of Education and public high schools to our annual Education Partners’ Luncheon. Present were Dr. Zenaida Callope and Ms. Anghelita Santa Ana, representatives from Department of Education Marikina Division Office, Principals, and Teacher Coordinators from our partner public high schools in Marikina and Quezon cities: Concepcion, Concepcion Integrated, Fortune, Marikina Heights, Marikina High School, Marikina Science, Nangka, Parang, Sta. Elena and Tañong High School; Balara High School, Batasan Hills, Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science and Technology High School, Jose P. Laurel Sr., Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma, and Quirino High School.

Pathways took this opportunity to update our partners with the progress of the participants, the successes of their students and where they are now. Principals and coordinators beamed with pride as they saw how far their former students have gone since they last saw them. This was also our chance to acknowledge our partners especially the coordinators who have played a very important role in bridging talented students to quality colleges.

From there, Pathways and its partners continue to look forward to more student successes and help more deserving students pursue their dreams of a college education.
