Last August 18th saw the 2nd Pathways Education Partners’ Luncheon at the Ateneo de Manila University. The event was attended by various high school teachers, principals, even local government officials from Marikina and Quezon City. Represented high schools were Concepcion Integrated School, Marikina Heights National High School, Marikina High School, Marikina Science High School, APrang High School, Sta. Elena High School, Tañong High School, Balara High School, Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma High School, Krus na Ligas High School and Ramon Magsaysay High School.
The Education Partners’ Luncheon is essentially a report of what transpired in the past year. It is held annually to recount the progress of Pathways scholars in the high school and college levels. The occasion also gives Pathways the opportunity to acknowledge coordinators from partner public high schools who have helped bridge students to prime colleges throughout the Philippines, and to discuss future collaboration efforts.
According to Pathways Director, Solvie Nubla-Lee, the organization’s goal for its students to enter college, finish, and ultimately become citizens that work for the development of the country, is in fact becoming a reality. In 2009, 34 Pathways scholars graduated from some of the country’s top universities, among which are the Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University, and the University of Sto. Tomas. 5 of these scholars graduated with honors. The pride the Pathways coordinators have in the success of these graduates was clear, as they raised their hands to recognize former students of their respective high schools.
