2 Pathways scholars are turning Japanese!
We are very proud to share with you that 2 of our Pathways students are going to Japan this summer.
Lord Alec Pasion, a senior at the Ateneo de Manila University taking up BS Applied Computer Systems on top of his BS Chemistry degree, was recently selected as one of the five candidates for the NAIST-ADMU Internship Program. LA, the only undergraduate among his companions, will be exposed to the latest technologies on Structural and Functional Bioinformatics from March 9 to 14, 2009 at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Osaka, Japan.

The NAIST-ADMU Internship Program is an annual program first held in 2006 by a group of Ateneo graduates studying in NAIST. It aims to provide a venue of exposure to the latest technologies and research topics. This program also offers the students who are interested in pursuing their graduate studies in NAIST and excellent opportunity to learn more about their prospective professors, laboratories and other important subjects such as scholarships and research funding.
Marvin Cruz, an Applied Math major in Finance freshman also at the Ateneo de Manila University was recently chosen to be a Student Ambassador to the Land of the Rising Sun. In May 2009 he joins other students in a 10-day visit to Japan as part of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme.

Marvin was selected by the National Youth Commission with the Japan International Cultural Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE).
The JENESYS Programme, funded by the Japanese Government and in partnership with the ASEAN Secretariat, is to deepen understanding of the different facets of the Japanese society including politics, diplomacy, economics and culture and to form the basis of future vision and construct firm solidarity among Asian countries which will promote mutual understanding of the future generation of ASEAN and East Asia Summit member countries.
Reginald Bueno, now a senior at De La Salle University taking up BS Educational Psychology for being accepted again as a Philippine delegate in the World Creative Youth Forum. He will be joining the climate change working group composed of young people from all over the world from May 5 – 10, 2009 at the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance.

The World Creative Youth Forum (WCYF) 2009 is a gathering of the youth with the objective to mainstream sustainable development and encourage united effort and involvement towards this. Main focuses of the conference are Peace and Human Rights, Climate Change, Sustainable Lifestyle, Entrepreneurship, Education and Technology and Advocacy for Sustainable Development. For details, see: www.worldcreativeyouthforum.net
Regie was also chosen to be a Student Ambassador to Japan as part of the JENESYS Programme and a Philippine representative at the ASEAN + 3 Youth Festival in Singapore last year. He was also Pathways’ first student to be able to join an international program. He has served as an inspiration to our other students to follow their dreams, here and abroad.
Congratulations LA, Marvin and Regie! We are all very proud of you and excited to hear you stories of your exciting endeavors!
