Four hundred students from 50 high schools in Metro Manila, Cavite, and Lucena City trooped to the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia to participate in the educ8 2 liber8 College and Scholarship Fair Last October 25 and 26, where 17 higher education institutions and the SM Foundation set up exhibits to let graduating high school students know that college need not be the financial nightmare they imagine it to be. Students were given the chance to ask about the schools’ admissions procedures and the financial assistance programs or scholarship grants they can avail of.
The fair resonates with the goals of Schoogle, which was also launched during the two-day fair. Aimed at the making information about alternative sources of funding for tertiary education more accessible to graduating high school students, the project hopes to dispel notions that college students need to bear the financial burden of their education by themselves. Through Schoogle, all the help they need is just a click away.

Concurrent talks and workshops were also held to help students improve their chances of getting into schools and different scholarship programs, including developing good study habits, time and stress management, and preparing for an interview. Co-presenter Penshoppe meanwhile setup their own Style University, to give students inexpensive tips on how to look good and still be comfortable in the university.
Jam-packed as it already was, a concert in partnership with Penshoppe, RockEd, and Globe was also held to close the fair with a musical bang. College after all, is not only about getting good grades but having fun as well. Other partners include the Diamond Hotel, Petron Treats, Sulpicio Lines, and Radyo Veritas.

Now that the fair is over, it is hoped that those who participated gained a new sense of direction and motivation to pursue a college degree and become who they want to be despite the odds, with a little help and heaps of talent.
